Lead Tooling Specialist

Pay or shift range: $72,000 USD to $107,000 USD. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job‑related reasons.

Position Summary:

Builds fixtures to print for CNC machines & assembly. Build fixtures to print for CNC machines & assembly. Machine prototype parts to print. Machine secondary operations and rework parts. Responsible for accuracy of own work. Use inspection gauges and equipment to check work. Must be able to wear personal safety gear as required to meet OSHA regulations, i.e., goggles, gloves, back belt, apron, and respirator when required.

Basic blueprint reading and mil spec knowledge. Fill out required paperwork and required documentation.

Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters.

Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.

Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available.

Anticipates needed stock.

Places and expedites orders for stock, verifying receipt of stock.

Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zeros and reference points.

Sets tool registers, offsets, compensations, and conditional switches.

Calculates requirements including basic math and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.

Loads machine by lifting stock into position.

Verifies setting by measuring positions, first‑run part, and sample work pieces, adhering to standards.

Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations.

Take measurements.

Detect malfunctions.

Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.

Experience and

Education:

5-6 years of relevant experience. High school degree or equivalent, plus specialized training.

Excellent attention to detail. Working knowledge of customer specifications and requirements. Basic computer skills. Problem solving abilities. Ability to use calipers, micrometers, etc. Mastery of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions). Strong teamwork and communication skills to get along with co‑workers and be a team player. Understand and obey safety requirements. Commitment to keep work area clean and free of debris.

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time. Capable of standing for long periods.
