Pay Range InformationChapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors.
The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary
Researcher will undertake research in comparative animal biomechanics, with a focus on experimental fluid dynamics as outlined in the NSF grant "Integrative biology of fiber-reinforced slime in hagfishes". Under general minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with other others; analyze, organize, and prepare publications; maintain current knowledge of appropriate related scientific literature; assist with research training for undergraduate students.
Responsibilities- Engages in scientific research projects and report on findings.
- Plan, perform, direct and analyze various projects in comparative animal biophysics
- Present findings at meetings.
- Conduct experiments in experimental fluid dynamics
- Analyze particle image velocimetry data
- Write up our findings for publication in the scientific literature.
- Help prepare progress reports for funding agencies.
- Assist with preparing materials and setting up basic laboratory activities.
- Keep detailed notes and records of daily research activities and experimental steps.
- Enter, organize, and track research data in spreadsheets or shared databases.
- Create charts, tables, or visuals for lab meetings or progress reports
- Develop and refine laboratory protocols.
- Troubleshoot experimental issues related to imaging setups, fluid flow tanks, cameras, and software.
- Maintain current knowledge of appropriate related scientific literature.
- Recognize and investigate important issues in comparative animal biophysics
- Assist with research training for undergraduate students
- Provide guidance to undergraduate students on routine lab tasks or data entry
- Perform other duties as assigned related to management of research activities, e.g. assisting with conference and seminar organizing, assisting with hosting research visitors, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field
- Working knowledge in the analysis of particle image velocimetry data
- Ability to write manuscripts and submit to peer-reviewed journal
- Ability to create posters and conference presentations.
- Ability to mentor undergraduate researchers
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Working knowledge in the analysis of data with R statistical software
- M.Sc. degree or higher with research experience in experimental fluid dynamics preferred.
