This position supports the work of YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Education Coach serves as a facilitator for transformative teaching, empowering educators to provide exceptional early childhood experiences. The Coach drives the development and implementation of a strategic professional development system that directly enhances the quality of education and care provided to children.
Through expert CLASS monitoring, individualized coaching, and targeted training, the Coach fosters a culture of continuous improvement and ensures adherence to the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act. By collaborating closely with educators and leadership, the Coach identifies professional development needs and designs engaging, impactful learning opportunities that elevate teaching practices to support and help children thrive.
The Education Coach follows all state, federal, community care licensing, and food program regulations and YMCA policies and procedures at all times.
- Implement Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) to fidelity in accordance with Head Start expectations for coaching and professional development.
- Provide individualized, reflective, and relationship‑based coaching to Early Head Start and Head Start education staff to support effective teaching and caregiving practices.
- Conduct structured observations, collaborative goal setting, action planning, and reflection and feedback cycles consistent with practice‑based coaching practices.
- Support staff in implementing developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically responsive practices aligned with the program’s curriculum and school readiness goals.
- Collaborate with education leadership and management teams to support program planning and coordinated approaches to professional development.
- Use data from observations, assessments, and program monitoring to inform coaching strategies and document progress through the PBC monitoring tool.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of coaching activities to support monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with Center Directors and Operations Executive Directors to identify specific learning needs and tailor training and coaching efforts that align with each site’s specific goals.
- Conduct CLASS and curriculum fidelity observations to assess classroom quality and instructional effectiveness, followed by clear and constructive debriefs.
- Prepare timely documentation and reports to identify trends that target professional development, coaching, and other training needs.
- Partner with Inclusion and Education teams to strengthen classroom management and elevate instructional practices across all program sites.
- Lead debriefs with teaching staff and Center Directors to review CLASS and curriculum fidelity assessment results, and facilitate strength‑based approach sessions with actionable steps for growth, using evidence‑based coaching practices.
- Attend and actively participate in all required Los Angeles County Office of Education training sessions, meetings, and professional development activities as assigned, and any other LACOE sponsored Coach Networks.
- Apply learning from LACOE and Head Start trainings to coaching practices to ensure compliance with HSPPS and program goals.
- Support a positive team culture through strong collegial relationships and effective communication.
- Promote adult learning by motivating and empowering teachers to strengthen their instructional practice.
- Participate in Education Development Meetings, committees, projects, and agency‑wide initiatives, including professional development trainings related to program needs.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
