Nursing Supervisor (RN-12 hours)

Base Rate:$ $53.98to $79.36

12 hr. shifts- paid overtime after 8 hours, resulting in an average rate of $62.97 - $92.59

Job Summary: The Nursing Supervisor-RN is responsible for the nursing care of patients in a designated unit on a designated shift. Works independently within a broad scope of established hospital and departmental policies and goals in rendering physical and supportive care and health teaching to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Safely manages the environment of care while providing services. Interacts appropriately with staff, physicians, and other departments in collaborative relationships to meet the needs of patient/families.

Supervises and delegates appropriately to other licensed and non-licensed staff members in providing care to patients/families. Assists the Nursing Director in the overall management of nursing personnel, patient care unit, and the educational environment of the patient care unit. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Respond and participate in Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls and team lead Code Blues. Able to perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions.
  • Uses critical thinking skills in diagnosing clinical problems and in defining interventions. Able to prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
  • Willingness and capability to complete the duties of the Registered Nurse on a daily basis as needed.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, including the willingness to pursue roles with increasing levels of accountability, coaching, teaching, inspiring, forging alliances, and collaborating to negotiate resolution to issues.
  • Possess the ability to work in stressful situations.
  • Performs weekly audits for hand hygiene, charge nurse end of shift reports and chart audits.
  • Executes assigned process improvement projects as assigned.
  • Interviews employee applicants and completes necessary paperwork. Supervises unit orientation for new employees ensuring that competencies are demonstrated and documented.
  • Supervises the unit to include adjusting staffing on a shift-to shift basis; counseling/coaching employees and takes appropriate disciplinary actions for infractions to policy; providing education to staff and assists with cohesion of the unit.
  • Completes monthly schedule and assists with staff with scheduling needs.
  • Completes daily assignments sheets one week prior and adjusts as needed.
  • Assist with review of sufficient supply inventory.
  • Updates outdated forms to accommodate current policy and procedure.
  • Correlate with department Medical Director to enhance department Throughput processes and times.
  • Performance Reviews for all new hires and continuing staff in accordance with performance review policies and procedures.
  • Continuing education with staff that include huddle notes, discussions, and visual boards.
  • Completes monthly staff meetings with minutes and sign in sheet.
  • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
  • Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
  • Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
  • Acts quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care.
  • Stabilizes patients by coordination with medical staff providers, EMS (Emergency Medical Services), coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional, calm manner.
  • May float to other areas of the hospital as assigned.
  • Stocks assigned rooms, keeps work areas clean.
  • Attends and/or completes monthly, annual, and assigned training.
