Position: Supervisor, Contract Logistics (2nd Shift) - Gardena CA

JOB DESCRIPTION The position manages the daily activities of a warehouse to provide highest customer service, working efficiency, safety, and lowest cost for operational areas. The Supervisor provides leadership, motivation, training, and development of the team.

Overview

Under the direction of an Operations Manager or General Manager, the incumbent supervises one warehouse. The incumbent is a team builder who oversees scheduling, supervision, and safe utilization of equipment, applying APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model and other tools to enhance operational efficiency and meet corporate objectives.

Responsibilities Operations Management & Compliance
  • Provide operational support services and sometimes act as first-line supervisor of a transactional operations area, using existing systems and protocols.
  • Coordinate the unloading of all shipments using established procedures.
  • Verify accuracy of all inbound/outbound shipments.
  • Ensure all damaged product reports and documentation is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Complete daily and hourly tracking of load status and scheduled departures.
  • Prepare and generate warehouse productivity reports for management.
  • Control cycle counts to ensure accurate and fully reported inventory.
  • Monitor product disposition.
  • Assist in physical inventories.
  • Inspect damaged cartons for concealed damage and document accordingly.
Safety, Sanitation and Security
  • Promote and maintain a safety awareness program; schedule and conduct safety meetings; ensure all required safety measures are in place and the facility complies with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure subordinates meet training requirements and comply with CT-PAT regulations and security policies.
  • Follow rigid housekeeping and sanitation policies and apply the 5S Lean methodology to sustain a safe, clean, and orderly facility.
Process Improvement
  • Apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model to improve business processes, increase proficiency and cost savings, and eliminate waste to meet or exceed budget.
People Management
  • Provide ongoing training and orientations for subordinates to ensure compliance with company requirements and policies.
  • Recommend personnel actions (hire, fire, promotions, increases).
  • Use well-documented corrective disciplinary measures in a timely manner as applicable.
  • Ensure direct and indirect reports receive frequent performance feedback, including a 90‑day assessment and annual review thereafter.
  • Maintain an environment of development and recognition; coordinate scheduling to ensure proper staffing for efficient product/material handling.
  • Monitor attendance, tardiness, and other productivity-impacting factors.
Additional Information Key Result Areas
  • Apply 5S Lean methodology using a structured five-step approach to design, attain, and maintain high-level housekeeping and work process organization.
  • Ensure direct and indirect reports comply with all Federal and State OSHA and company safety requirements, maintaining an injury‑free work environment.
  • Identify and implement processes to meet or exceed budget requirements; identify cost‑saving initiatives impacting the facility and the company as a whole.
Qualifications LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Forklift Equipment Certification
Experience General Experience
  • Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised (at least 1 year in lead or supervisory experience)
  • Familiarity with warehouse management and operations, including use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory control management and distribution service operations.
  • Ability to effectively schedule labor and carriers.
  • Ability to train and enforce company safety programs related to OSHA regulations and company standards.
  • Computer P/C and software knowledge.
  • Forklift certified.
  • 2‑3 years of previous warehouse experience preferred.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
Managerial Experience
  • Experience supervising and directing people and resources to achieve specific results within limited time frames (at least 1 year lead or supervisory experience).
