Class A CDL Drayage Truck Driver

Technical Gardena, CA, US

Position Summary

NGL Transportation, Inc. is seeking experienced and safety-focused Class A CDL Drayage Truck Drivers to join our growing operations team. Based out of Gardena, California, our drivers play a critical role in moving freight between ports, rail yards, warehouses, and distribution centers throughout the Los Angeles and Southern California region.

The ideal candidate is a professional, reliable driver with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service. This role operates primarily in a local drayage environment with port and intermodal freight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a Class A tractor-trailer to transport containerized freight between ports (LA/Long Beach), rail yards, warehouses, and customer distribution centers.
  • Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in compliance with FMCSA and California DMV regulations, and document findings on the DVIR.
  • Pick up and deliver import/export containers as dispatched, adhering to appointment times, port schedules, and customer delivery windows.
  • Accurately complete all required shipping documents including Bills of Lading, delivery receipts, interchange forms, and daily manifests — including recording all breaks as required.
  • Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delays, re-spots, schedule changes, or any issues encountered during the shift.
  • Comply with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations; maintain accurate ELD records or paper logs when required by California regulations.
  • Perform trailer re-spots at customer facilities when requested by warehouse personnel, following company SOP and immediately notifying dispatch.
  • Operate within California's 55 mph CMV speed limit and all applicable CA Vehicle Code regulations at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance and represent NGL Transportation with courtesy and professionalism at all customer locations.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, or near-misses to dispatch and the Safety Department immediately, following company accident reporting procedures.
  • Ensure cargo is properly secured in compliance with FMCSA cargo securement standards before every departure.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with CARB Truck & Bus Regulations and all applicable environmental compliance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience
  • Clean MVR — no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years
  • No DUIs, reckless driving, or major violations
  • Must pass DOT pre-employment drug & alcohol screening
  • Must pass DOT physical and maintain valid Medical Certificate
  • Familiarity with port drayage operations (LA/LB preferred)
  • Experience with chassis inspection and container handling

Strong knowledge of HOS regulations and ELD compliance
  • Ability to navigate using GPS and electronic dispatch systems
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
  • Haz Mat endorsement on CDL
  • Experience with Samsara ELD platform
  • Bilingual — English and Korean or Spanish
  • Familiarity with CARB compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of CA port terminal systems (e.g., Port Check, eModal)
  • Experience operating in congested urban port environments
  • Prior drayage experience at Ports of LA or Long Beach
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform the following physical tasks on a regular basis:

  • Sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods
  • Climb in and out of the cab repeatedly throughout the shift
  • Lift and carry up to 10 lbs (e.g., chains, binders, equipment)
  • Perform hands‑on pre/post‑trip inspection of entire vehicle
  • Work in varying weather conditions — heat, cold, rain
  • Bend, kneel, and crouch during vehicle inspection and coupling
  • Maintain alertness and focus during long driving periods
  • Work early morning, evening, or weekend shifts as required
Conduct & Compliance Standards

All NGL Transportation drivers are expected to uphold the following standards as a condition of employment:

  • Treat all company staff, dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers with professionalism and respect at all times.
  • Communicate with dispatch in a professional manner — verbal abuse, yelling, or threatening behavior toward any employee is grounds for immediate termination.
  • Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including re-spot procedures, manifest requirements, and accident reporting protocols.
  • Never refuse a reasonable request from a customer's warehouse team — contact dispatch immediately if any concern arises.
  • Record all breaks, including the required 30‑minute meal break, on the daily manifest without exception.
  • Report any citation, accident, or license suspension to NGL Transportation immediately — no exceptions.
