This is a professional services position involving the licensing and examination of non-bank mortgage lenders and sales finance companies in accordance with state lending laws such as Truth-in-Lending.

A Senior Consumer Credit examiner reviews loan files to determine compliance with applicable lending laws. This may involve determining amounts of restitution owed to consumers, making recommendations for changes in lending laws, and or administrative enforcement action to revoke a company's license.

Representative tasks include:

Writing examination reports.

Working with the Attorney General's office to prepare documents and testimony for administrative hearings.

Traveling out of state for training and examinations of larger companies

Knowledge and skills required:

Experience in lending to consumers.

Knowledge of Maine and Federal lending laws.

Ability to communicate in writing and verbally.

Ability to plan and organize and analyze data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One (1) year experience in the examination of credit agency policies and practices and a Bachelors Degree. Comparable work experience may be substituted for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mortgage lending, consumer finance, or any industry regulated by the Bureau (such as debt collection or money transmission). Preference is also extended to current or former state/federal employees with a background in regulatory compliance, auditing, or administrative law enforcement, as well as candidates with advanced computer or data analysis skills.
