With supervision, the Fleet Technician I is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Mobile Storage rental fleet equipment, including containers, ground level offices, office trailers, and/or modular buildings. The Fleet Technician I must perform all cleaning and maintenance tasks in a safe manner in accordance with company standards and can also perform duties of an Equipment Associate.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Mobile Storage quality standards.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to removal and repair of flooring, tiles, roofs, walls, frames, doors, leaks, caulking, windows, screens, painting, filters/dampers, skin and trim replacement, tagging of equipment, and removal or installation of UR decals and equipment numbers.
- Hook mobile offices to power sources and check tire pressure and lugs.
- Complete assignments on time, within budget, and as documented on work orders.
- Travel to customer sites to set office trailers and assist CDL A drivers when needed.
- Execute equipment modifications in accordance with manufacturer specifications and state/local building codes.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the shop, yard, tools, and supplies following Mobile Storage and United Rentals 5S guidelines; store tools and VAPs securely; keep the yard free of debris; advise supervisor of supply needs.
- Perform inbound and outbound equipment inspections and processing following Rental Flow procedures.
- Operate forklifts safely.
- Show and exhibit fleet to customers when needed.
- Safely install and/or uninstall VAPs according to reservation requirements.
- Perform routine repairs and refurbishment on mobile storage equipment following standard procedures and work instructions.
- Conduct repetitive repairs such as door and lock adjustments, minor hardware replacement, caulking and sealing, paint touch‑ups, repair of subfloor, tile, roof, walls, doors, windows, and swapping wheels, tires, and axles.
- Complete general maintenance tasks: filter replacement, cleaning, and preparation.
- Follow standard work instructions and checklists for all repair activities.
- Escalate non‑standard issues or complex diagnostics to other technicians or management.
- Complete equipment inspections and documentation accurately using required mobile applications.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Active applicable state class driver’s license.
- Related maintenance or entry‑level construction, mechanical, or general maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Construction knowledge and background.
- Teamwork and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated time‑management skills.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and checklists.
- Ability to utilize required information technology.
- Working knowledge of heavy equipment, tools, and manufacturers’ warranty process.
- Accurately record time and materials used for proper work order completion.
- Strong attention to detail for quality repairs.
- Willingness to learn and follow standard procedures.
- Lift up to 45 lbs.
