We are seeking a dependable, organized, and mechanically inclined Shop Manager to oversee our shop, fleet, equipment, inventory, and yard operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our crews have everything they need to deliver exceptional service each day.
Position OverviewThe Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining the operational readiness of Rooted Landscape’s fleet, equipment, shop, and yard. This individual ensures trucks, trailers, equipment, tools, and materials are organized, maintained, and ready for each day’s work. The ideal candidate enjoys organization, preventative maintenance, logistics, and creating systems that improve efficiency. This role requires someone who takes pride in a clean, well-run shop and understands that operational excellence begins before crews ever leave the yard.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Fleet & Equipment Management
- Oversee preventative maintenance for all company trucks, trailers, skid steers, excavators, loaders, mowers, utility vehicles, and small equipment.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs and coordinate major repairs with outside vendors.
- Schedule routine service, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records for all fleet and equipment.
- Monitor fuel usage, fluids, tires, batteries, and equipment performance.
- Assist with equipment purchasing recommendations and replacement planning.
- Shop & Yard Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional shop and yard.
- Implement and maintain 5S principles throughout the facility.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and easily accessible.
- Keep loading areas organized for efficient daily operations.
- Maintain cleanliness around the building, parking areas, and storage yards.
- Oversee scrap, recycling, and waste disposal.
- Stage plants, hardscape materials, irrigation supplies, pool materials, and other project items for the following day’s work.
- Work closely with Operations, Sales, and Crew Leaders to ensure all materials are available before crews leave each morning.
- Verify deliveries for accuracy and quality.
- Organize and distribute materials efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Assist with loading trucks and trailers when necessary.
- Inventory & Purchasing
- Maintain inventory of shop supplies, tools, irrigation parts, landscape materials, fertilizers, fuel, PPE, and equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate purchasing needs.
- Receive, organize, and track deliveries.
- Assist the Controller and Operations Team with purchasing and vendor coordination.
- Minimize waste and improve inventory accuracy.
- Facility Maintenance
- Ensure the shop, office grounds, storage areas, and yard remain clean and well maintained.
- Perform routine facility maintenance and minor building repairs.
- Coordinate outside vendors for specialized maintenance when needed.
- Monitor lighting, security, and general property appearance.
- Safety & Compliance
- Maintain OSHA-compliant shop practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections.
- Ensure equipment meets safety standards before being used.
- Maintain SDS documentation and shop safety equipment.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience managing a fleet, shop, warehouse, or equipment yard.
- Mechanical experience with trucks, trailers, commercial landscape equipment, or construction equipment.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience with inventory management.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
