The Director of Corporate Logistics is responsible for leading and optimizing Excelligence’s domestic and international transportation operations. This role oversees parcel, Less Than Truckload (LTL), Truckload (TL), and ocean freight logistics, ensuring timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods. This leader will drive carrier and freight forwarder strategy, manage import-related expenses (including tariffs, customs duties, brokerage fees, demurrage, and ocean surcharges), and establish performance metrics to measure operational effectiveness.

The Director partners cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to control costs, maintain compliance, and enhance service levels across a growing global logistics network.

Carrier, Broker & 3PL Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and 3PL providers.
  • Negotiate rates and service agreements to optimize cost and performance.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with service level expectations and company policies.
Import & International Trade Oversight
  • Manage import-related logistics expenses, including:
  • Tariffs and customs duties
  • Brokerage fees
  • Demurrage and detention
  • Insurance and other associated international costs
  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws, tariff classifications, customs regulations, INCOTERMS, and import/export documentation requirements.
  • Partner with Finance to forecast import expenses, track variances, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize avoidable tariffs and duties through routing optimization and compliance strategy.
Cost Management & Route Optimization
  • Develop and manage logistics budgets.
  • Analyze shipment data (including international ocean routes) to optimize transportation strategies.
  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining service standards.
  • Monitor import-related cost drivers and identify profitability improvement opportunities.
Metrics & KPI Management
  • Develop and manage KPIs to measure:
  • Transportation costs
  • Carrier and freight forwarder performance
  • Tariff impact
  • Leverage data insights to improve decision-making and operational performance.
Process Improvement
  • Identify and implement logistics process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Streamline import processes to reduce delays, avoid unnecessary duties, and minimize preventable fees.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of logistics professionals.
  • Provide training in import procedures, customs compliance, and expense management.
  • Ensure team members have the tools and resources needed for high performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Customer Support
  • Work closely with Customer Service to resolve transportation-related issues, including international shipment delays and customs challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless logistics execution and high customer satisfaction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive logistics management experience.
  • Direct experience managing parcel, LTL, TL, and ocean freight shipments.
  • Hands-on experience managing import expenses and customs processes.
  • Proven success reducing transportation costs and optimizing import-related expenses (including tariff/duty mitigation strategies).
  • Strong negotiation experience with carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
  • Transportation regulations
  • International trade compliance
  • Tariffs and customs procedures
  • INCOTERMS
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Experience leading and developing logistics teams.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Experience building and managing logistics KPIs, including ocean freight and import cost metrics.
