Job Description
Position: Special Education Administrator
Starting Date: Immediately
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Job Goal: Oversees and monitors special education compliance and practices in meeting state and federal regulations and timelines for the assigned building(s). Assists in developing effective inclusion supports and instructional strategies through staff evaluation and professional development activities. Performs a variety of administrative tasks related to policy implementation, compliance with legal regulations, and maintaining educational standards. Provides leadership and utilizes decision‑making skills to supervise the implementation of MTSS system, instructional programs, and offerings for the school/district.
Qualifications
- Massachusetts teacher certification in Moderate to Severe Disabilities or related field
- Master’s Degree in related field
- Special Education Administrator license or Supervisor/Director license in related field
Responsibilities
Coordinated services with in‑school personnel, state agencies, early intervention services, building principals, parents, etc., while adhering to state and federal guidelines.Facilitated re‑evaluations, initials, additional testing or extended evaluation meetings to ensure students with disabilities are educated in the least restrictive environment with access to the general education curriculum.Acted as decision maker when the IEP team was split between options and proposals.Aided in tracking, scheduling, and facilitating manifestation determination meetings and coordinated the FBA/BIP process with related services, other building administrators and staff.Served as out‑of‑district liaison to assigned cases and tracked students including homeschool, parochial, private and collaborative cases to ensure compliance with review meetings and re‑evaluation timelines.Tracked and coordinated building and district data for students with disabilities: in‑district IEP meetings (reviews, re‑evaluations, reconvenes, initials), state indicators, related services, and annual DESE reporting requirements.Proofread IEPs, ensured that services agreed to in team meetings were transferred correctly to the IEP, and approved/sign‑off as administrator on all IEPs for the assigned building.Acted as a designated person in the team meeting to commit resources for contractual, direct services to the student, equipment, and placement decisions recommended by the team when appropriate. Included the building principal or designee in discussions when services involving staff changes or additional staffing services at the building level were recommended by the team.Provided school personnel with professional learning and updates to legal requirements relative to school district special education services and programs.Recommended policies, programs and procedures essential to the needs of students with disabilities and in compliance with district policies, IDEA and state regulations.Advised staff and administrators of legal requirements governing special education and other federal programs as may be assigned.Developed, directed and administered training in the due process procedures related to the identification and placement of students.Assisted in developing and coordinating special education services with building administration.Oversaw student transition planning across buildings/district.Collaborated with administration on MTSS system, curriculum, instruction, and social‑emotional supports for all students.Worked with building administration to reinforce the correct state, federal, and district processes when out of compliance with practices and regulations and reported issues that were out of compliance to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.Prepared local, state and federal reports as required.Developed and implemented screening programs for continuous identification of students referred for special education.Assisted the principal with budget recommendations.Oversaw scheduling and case assignments for all related service providers in the building.Participated with building administrators in the recruitment,…
