You help individuals access the programs, appointments, services, and opportunities that support their independence and well-being.
This role is essential in ensuring that every rider—whether ambulatory or using a wheelchair—experiences safe, compassionate, and reliable transportation.
Position OverviewThe Driver maintains consistent communication with Transit staff and ensures the safe transport of all assigned riders. This role requires professionalism, patience, strong situational awareness, and a commitment to person-centered care. Work hours vary based on assignment and typically range between 20–30 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities- Safe & Dignified Transportation — Ensure the safe daily transportation of all clients assigned.
- Assistance to Riders — Assist riders with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including seat belts, securement of wheelchairs, and support as needed.
- Wheelchair Safety — Safely push, pull, and secure wheelchairs to meet safety standards.
- Rider Supervision — Never leave riders unattended on the vehicle.
- Professional Conduct & Communication — Maintain open and timely communication with office staff about emergencies, concerns, or unusual situations.
- Documentation & Operational Tools — Carry and maintain route logs, vehicle checklists, time cards, and cellular phone as required.
- Training, Availability & Operational Support — Attend all mandatory in-service and training sessions.
- Availability — Be available for evening and weekend driving as needed.
- Other Duties — Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and effective transit services.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, CORI, fingerprinting, and obtain a hackney license (all fees paid by GAAMHA).
- High School Diploma required; GED or equivalent accepted with related experience.
- Minimum of two years of full-time employment, with at least six months in a related field.
- At least three years of driving experience with an acceptable driving record.
- Combination of education, training, and experience may substitute if deemed appropriate by the Transit Supervisor.

Reports directly to the Transit Supervisor.
Work schedule varies as needed.
