Maintenance Person
The district is seeking an experienced individual to join our Maintenance Department. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in plumbing. The maintenance worker maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of the district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the maintenance worker must work closely with the staff and administration of the Garfield School District.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Boiler Fireman's Black Seal License
- Proficiency with operating electrical tools/equipment
- Experience in building and grounds operations
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to use computers and software for maintenance and inventory, HR portal, professional development and scanning in and out daily
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to read chemical labels
- Ability to read and follow material safety data sheets
- Ability to initiate and complete work orders
- Ability to function as part of a buildings and grounds operational team by assuming varied responsibilities in differing circumstances
- Valid NJ Driver's License
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
- Eligible for employment in the United States
Essential functions include maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition, performing minor repairs and adjustments to electrical systems, repairing or replacing light fixtures, fabricating and installing metal parts, repairing or replacing mechanical components, assisting in minor repairs to motor vehicle equipment and maintenance and grounds equipment, performing various carpentry tasks, repairing and replacing plumbing faucets, preparing surfaces for painting, performing brush, roller and spray painting, reglazing/caulking and resealing outside joints around windows and door frames, performing minor repairs to public address systems and intercom systems, fabricating and installing forms and pouring concrete for patching or new construction installations, assisting in snow removal, maintaining balance on a ladder, ensuring all activities conform to district guidelines and policies, communicating effectively with members of the school district and community, reacting to change productively, and handling other tasks as assigned.
Terms of employment:
Twelve-month position with compensation in accordance with the Local 560 negotiated contract. Evaluation:
New employees will be placed on a probationary period with three evaluations on the 30th, 60th, and 90th day of work. Veteran staff will be evaluated once a year.
