CAPE Para-to-Teacher Pathway

Overview

CAPE Program Final date to receive applications: Sunday, March 8, 2026. The CAPE Para-to-Teacher Pathway is designed for Garland ISD high school graduates, paraprofessionals, and substitutes who aspire to become elementary classroom teachers. We plan to accept up to 40 candidates. Selected participants will begin completing the Garland 15 coursework in April 2026. During this time, they will also prepare to enroll at Dallas College to begin coursework in Summer or Fall 2026.

Participants will obtain or remain in instructional support paraprofessional roles while working toward a bachelor’s degree through Dallas College. While participants are responsible for tuition costs, the CAPE team and Dallas College will provide support with the FAFSA process and share information about available scholarship opportunities.

To apply for the CAPE Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Current role (one of the following):
  • Garland ISD high school graduate who went through the Future Teacher Internship, OR
  • Garland ISD paraprofessional, OR
  • Garland ISD substitute (with at least 50 days worked across the previous two semesters)
• Educational background:
  • Preferred (but not required) - Have 30 college credit hours with a 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Preferred (but not required) - Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university
  • Must be willing to enroll in or transfer to Dallas College
