The Lead Product Engineer provides day-to-day leadership, coordination, and technical direction for the Product Engineering team. Reporting directly to the Product Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for driving execution of departmental priorities, managing engineering projects, leading continuous improvement initiatives, coordinating production escalations, and developing Product Engineers through coaching and performance management.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide daily leadership and direction to assigned Product Engineers.
- Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings focused on employee development, performance, goals, and career growth.
- Mentor and coach Product Engineers to improve technical knowledge and engineering effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Receive production priorities from the Product Engineering Manager
- Coordinate engineering resources to ensure production-critical issues are addressed according to business priorities.
- Assign engineering resources based on urgency, technical complexity, and production impact.
- Monitor escalation progress and communicate status to leadership.
- Escalate unresolved issues requiring management intervention.
- Lead process improvement initiatives that improve engineering efficiency, quality, and manufacturing performance.
- Standardize engineering workflows and documentation.
- Develop, implement, and sustain best practices within Product Engineering.
- Track departmental KPIs and recommend corrective actions when performance goals are not achieved.
- Root Cause Analysis Leadership
- Facilitate structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) workshops for the highest design defect-per-unit issues.
- Lead cross-functional teams through problem definition, data collection, root cause identification, corrective action development, and sustainment planning.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented, verified, and standardized.
- Report RCA outcomes and lessons learned to leadership.
- Plan and lead quarterly Product Engineering audits within assigned manufacturing sites and regions.
- Develop corrective action plans from audit findings.
- Report audit results and trends to the Product Engineering Manager.
- UL Compliance Leadership
- Serve as the primary Product Engineering representative during UL inspections and follow-up activities.
- Lead resolution of UL non-conformities by coordinating corrective actions between Product Engineering and other cross-functional departments.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed, verified, documented, and implemented within required timelines. Communicate inspection results, corrective action status, and compliance risks to the Product Engineering Manager.
- Lead cross-functional detailed design reviews prior to production release to ensure engineering documentation is complete, accurate, manufacturable, and ready for production.
- Manage Product Engineering attendance, scheduling, and daily staffing for assigned locations.
- Review timekeeping for accuracy and communicate attendance concerns to the Product Engineering Manager.
