Position: City Safety Coordinator

Summary

Responsible for supporting the City's safety, compliance, and regulatory programs, through coordination, documentation, reporting, and administrative assistance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Assist in the administration of safety and regulatory compliance programs, including drug and alcohol testing, driver qualification monitoring, AED, First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens programs.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, logs, databases, and documentation.
  • Support internal safety observations, inspections, and compliance readiness activities.
  • Assist with DOT drug and alcohol testing program activities under the direction of the Designated Employer Representative (DER).
  • Support FMCSA Clearinghouse queries, record tracking, and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with Tier II chemical inventory reporting by maintaining records, inventories, and submission materials under supervision.
  • Track regulatory deadlines and assist with required filings and reports.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination, and tracking of safety training programs.
  • Maintain training attendance records and documentation.
  • Prepare basic training materials, handouts, and presentations using established templates.
  • Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and data entry.
  • Support incident investigations by organizing records, photographs, statements, and follow-up actions.
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding routine safety and compliance questions and coordinate with departments to collect required documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Health, Emergency Management, or a related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in safety, compliance, transportation, environmental health, or a related administrative role.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications

Education/

Experience:

  • Degree in Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Health, Emergency Management, or a related field
  • Working knowledge or exposure to Tier II chemical reporting
  • Working knowledge or exposure to FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements
  • Familiarity with DOT drug and alcohol testing programs or DER support functions
  • Internship or cooperative education experience in safety, risk management, or public-sector operations
  • Experience in a municipal, construction, utility, or transportation environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of occupational safety and regulatory compliance principles
  • Ability to organize, track, and maintain accurate compliance records
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to follow established procedures and elevate issues appropriately
  • Willingness to learn regulatory requirements and safety standards
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, AED, Instructor Certificate and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications within one year of hire
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred or ability to obtain
  • Ability to obtain Defensive Driving Instructor certification within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a Designated Employer Representative certificate within 6 months.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works primarily in a typical office environment with occasional field work. May be exposed to outdoor conditions, construction sites, or operational facilities during inspections or investigations. Ability to lift and transport materials or equipment up to 25 pounds may be required.
