Responsible for supporting domestic and international shipments
- Receive and review packing lists from the warehouse
- Review customer, destination, shipment details, shipping method, and applicable Incoterm
- Determine which freight forwarder is handling the shipment
- Coordinate freight bookings and booking confirmations
- Work with multiple freight forwarders
- Complete denied-party screening on 100% of international shipments
- Review government restricted-country, entity, and individual lists when necessary
- Understand and apply HTS codes
- Understand AES filing and ITN requirements
- Ensure required export filings are completed before freight is released
- Understand Incoterms including CPT, DAP, EXW, and DDP
- Communicate shipment documents and status to customers and internal Sales
- Coordinate air and ocean freight
- Support domestic LTL and other domestic shipments
- Create bills of lading
- Arrange carrier/trucking pickups
- Ensure lithium battery and applicable hazmat information is included correctly on shipping documentation
- Maintain shipment records and documentation
- Stay on top of email communication throughout the day and close the loop on outstanding items
International freight mix is approximately:
- 70% Air
- 30% Ocean
- 2+ years of hands-on international export experience. Depth of experience matters more than total tenure.
- End-to-end export ownership. Must understand how to move an international shipment from initial shipment/packing information through documentation, compliance, booking, release, tracking, and communication. Candidates who have only handled one piece of the process are not enough.
- Air AND ocean export experience required. Garrett's international volume is approximately 70% air / 30% ocean.
- Strong working knowledge of Incoterms and how they impact seller/customer responsibilities.
- Export compliance knowledge, including exposure to AES/ITN requirements, HTS codes, and denied-party screening.
- Import experience — helpful, but export is much more important.
- Domestic LTL/FTL experience.
- Manufacturer/shipper-side experience.
- Freight forwarding background is absolutely viable if they have end-to-end experience.
- ERP/MRP experience
- Fed Ex, UPS, DHL experience.
- Hazmat certification; can become certified after hire.
- Extremely detail-oriented and organized.
- Strong follow-through, especially with email and shipment communication.
- Flexible when priorities and shipment volumes change.
- Comfortable working in a fairly manual environment without relying on systems to tell them the next step.
- Independent and able to take ownership of a shipment from start to finish.
