Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Maintenance Technician oversees the facility and manufacturing equipment. This position requires strict adherence to the safety of all personnel and property. The candidate should be decisive, trustworthy, a clear communicator, and resilient. This should also include collaborative decision-making with key personnel done with integrity and strong ethical values to drive the individuals’ choices. The candidate must lead by example, setting the bar high for all subordinates.
Creativity, which is the ability to generate new ideas or solutions to motivate the team or improve efficiency, is also a valued quality. This includes assisting in the scheduling of all repairs/projects and collaborating with the site manager to improve operational efficiency of the facility. Drives activities that result in the repair/maintenance, upgrade, and installation of plant machinery. This will include tools, manufacturing equipment, and facility maintenance.
Executes a variety of technical tasks related to equipment maintenance and provides general and/or technical assistance to the site manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations while using company resources in line with Health and Safety policies. Assist in the improvement of facility safety procedures and adherence to OSHA and SC OSHA standards.
- Schedule repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and support equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
- Evaluate maintenance work orders to determine priorities and assignments using internal or external resources based on technical expertise and availability.
- Confer with senior management to resolve maintenance issues and recommend measures to improve conditions of machines and equipment.
- Assist in developing a preventive maintenance program in conjunction with internal or external maintenance staff to ensure optimum equipment uptime.
- Inspect operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
- Research alternative suppliers and methods of technology to perform maintenance work with a combination of cost and quality.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and determine causes, recommending solutions to the site manager.
- Assist the site manager in developing the capital expenditure budget and management.
- Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies required for projects.
- Assist in training staff, ensuring that best practices are used on all shifts and by all technicians.
- Assign and manage standard facilities duties in landscaping, office, janitorial, carpentry, painting, MEP, HVAC, roofing, and security using internal and external resources.
- Inspect buildings and equipment for repair and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and prepare reports for management review.
- Weekend and evening work required.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Technical or Vocational degree/certificate and 3+ years related experience in a manufacturing environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of advanced mechanical principles including electrical theory and practice, hydraulic theory and practice, pneumatic theory and practice.
- Basic to advanced troubleshooting of mechanically operated machinery.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC controlled machinery and ancillary equipment.
