Solder Technician
Location:
Garland, TX 75041
Shift: 1st Shift – 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (OT may be required)
Pay Rate: $18–$25/hr based on experience
Responsibilities- Hand Soldering:
Perform high‑quality hand soldering of through‑hole components, wires, terminals, and complex surface‑mount devices (SMD) under a microscope. - Rework & Touch‑up:
Receive flagged boards from the AOI/Quality team and perform necessary rework, including component removal, pad preparation, and component replacement using soldering irons and hot‑air rework stations. - Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and accurately interpret blueprints, Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and specific customer routing instructions. - Process Compliance:
Ensure all soldering work complies with IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 acceptability standards, utilizing both leaded and RoHS (lead‑free) solder alloys correctly. - Self‑Inspection:
Visually inspect your own work under magnification to ensure proper solder wetting, fillet shapes, and the absence of bridges, cold joints, or component damage. - Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain soldering equipment, including tip replacement, temperature calibration checks, and general workstation cleanliness (5S). - Documentation:
Accurately sign off on physical traveler documents and update digital ERP/MRP systems to maintain strict lot traceability and production tracking.
- Experience:
Minimum of 2–5 years of hands‑on experience in electronic hand soldering and PCBA rework. - Certifications:
Current or recent certification in IPC J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) and IPC-A-610 is strongly preferred. - Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of electronic components, polarity markings, and the difference between leaded and lead‑free soldering processes. - Tool Proficiency:
Experience using precision soldering irons, hot air pencils, desoldering tweezers, flux, and solder wick. - Attention to Detail:
Meticulous work ethic with the ability to focus on highly detailed tasks for extended periods. - Communication:
Ability to provide feedback to SMT operators regarding recurring solder issues to help improve the overall manufacturing process.
