Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for an Engineering Technologist IV with our large power and utilities client in Garner, NC. This is a 3‑year contract with a potential for extension. This is a hybrid position – 3 days a week in office.
Pay: $36.00 – $44.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA‑compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.
DescriptionThis role supports teams that work on automated switches, reclosers, remote equipment, and the communication systems that connect them. This person helps technicians in the field fix devices, program equipment, test new technology, and ensures grid equipment communicates correctly with company systems.
Key Responsibilities (Simplified)- Troubleshoot electrical control devices and communication equipment.
- Support field technicians during equipment issues.
- Configure and test modems, controllers, and firmware.
- Help commission new equipment.
- Work with engineering, IT, and vendors to solve problems.
- Create simple instructions and help train technicians.
- Engineering Tech II:
Basic electrical/electronics experience; 2‑year technical degree or equivalent. - Engineering Tech III: 4‑7 years technical utility/automation experience.
- Senior Tech: 7+ years experience with advanced troubleshooting responsibilities.
Someone who is hands‑on, resourceful, technically strong, and comfortable helping multiple groups solve equipment and communication problems.
Position Summary- The Hybrid TAS Technician provides cross‑functional technical support to the client’s Distribution Protection, Automation, & Control (DPAC) organization.
- The role blends field support, lab bench testing, device programming, provisioning, communications troubleshooting, process development, and subject‑matter expert (SME) guidance for I&C technicians and multiple technical groups.
- This is a hands‑on, problem‑solving role responsible for making it all work across distribution controls, modems/telecom, protective devices, PSC data, and commissioning workflows.
- Troubleshoot issues on recloser controls, automated switch gear, relays, and communications equipment.
- Bench test new controls, modems, firmware, and configurations.
- Support I&C technicians, linemen (in areas without I&C coverage), DSCADA checkout, and grid techs.
- Perform recloser reprogramming and oversee field execution.
- Assist with commissioning of automated switch gear and telecom upgrades.
- Diagnose modem provisioning, PSC connectivity, and communication path issues.
- Correct provisioning defects (e.g., PSC modem typos).
- Support telecom replacement programs and staging.
- Train and support the provisioning work group; develop job aids.
- Test new firmware, comms packages, modem images, and edge control platforms.
- Install/control pilot technologies for field evaluation.
- Validate connectivity and software prior to release.
- Interpret new standards and engineering requirements, translating them into field processes.
- Create or update job aids, troubleshooting guides, and procedural documentation.
- Deliver informal or scheduled training to I&C, reliability, PQ, grid, and DSCADA help desk staff.
- Load, validate, and maintain PSC data for distribution devices.
- Test PSC functionality with IT partners.
- Support access approvals and lead PSC workflow improvements.
- Act as liaison between I&C and grid, DSCADA checkout, standards, PQ, reliability, DPAC engineering, and design engineering.
- Coordinate with vendors on RMAs, firmware bugs, comms issues, and device anomalies.
- Identify gaps in materials, processes, or device readiness and implement improvements.
- Manage controller shipments (e.g., Queensgate ↔ Plainfield).
- Support staging, programming, and configuration of switch gear and controller assets.
