Dozer Operator
A Dozer Operator is an hourly‑rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described more fully below. The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the dozer, leveling and scooping soil, and controlling direction and angle of the equipment to move rocks and debris.
Key Duties- Proper pre‑start and daily maintenance including lubrication
- Operate the dozer in a safe and appropriate manner
- Understand, interpret and follow directions from foreman and superintendents
- Keep equipment clean and well maintained
- Notify supervisor if equipment needs repair
- Tire pressure checks
- Monitor all engine gauges
- Interact with construction general laborers and/or crew members to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of the equipment to achieve grade specifications for the project
- Turn valves to control air and water output of compressors and pumps
- Adjust control wheels, handles and depress pedals to drive machinery and control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers and swing booms
- Understand production and quantity requirements
- Schedule work and maintain production levels
- Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts
- Other duties as assigned

- Education and Experience. This position typically is not entry‑level and requires demonstrable prior experience as a Dozer Operator.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
- Three to five years or more of industry‑related experience is required, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
- Physical Demands. The following represents the physical demands required to successfully perform this job.
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. The employee must be able to stand for extended periods, stoop, bend and crouch as needed.
- Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes alongside hand power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry, frequently, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Maintain constant alertness to multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including other employees, contractors and moving machinery.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions.
- The operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
- Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are typical for a Dozer Operator.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust common to construction projects.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready‑mixed concrete.
