Cycle Counter / Sit-Down Forklift Operator
This role combines cycle counting and sit-down forklift operation in a busy warehouse staging area. You accurately count materials, update inventory using an RF scanner, shrink wrap and stack pallets, and safely operate a sit-down forklift in narrow aisles. You primarily work on a forklift throughout the day and may assist with loading trucks and general warehouse tasks while handling products weighing up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities- Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently in narrow aisles within a warehouse staging area.
- Perform cycle counts on materials to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Update inventory tickets and records using an RF scanner and other warehouse systems.
- Shrink wrap and stack pallets securely to prepare products for storage or shipment.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks as needed.
- Lift, lower, and carry products typically weighing 35–45 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Read and interpret work orders, including warehouse layout and product locations, to ensure correct picking and placement.
- Support order picking, packing, packaging, and production-related material handling activities.
- Use pallet jacks, reach trucks, and stand-up forklifts when required and if certified.
- Perform cycle counts and inventory checks to identify discrepancies and support inventory control.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and consistently meet performance and accuracy goals.
- Cross-train in at least 50% of functional positions within the assigned department to provide operational flexibility.
- Act as a backup for other departments in various functional positions when needed.
- Work collaboratively with team members and support the team concept in a fast-paced environment.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the department supervisor or lead.
- 2+ years of experience in warehouse, material handling, or similar roles involving forklift operation and inventory activities.
- Proven ability to operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently in a warehouse environment.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, warehouse layouts, and product location information.
- Competence in using RF scanners for inventory updates, order picking, and cycle counting.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, count accurately, and understand unit of measure conversions.
- Certified to operate warehouse equipment such as sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Ability to operate equipment requiring manual dexterity, including hand-held scanners.
- Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and think clearly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to support a team-oriented work environment and maintain a positive attitude.
- Physical ability to regularly stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch while performing job duties.
- Ability to lift, lower, and carry products up to 50 pounds.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience with reach trucks and stand-up forklifts.
- Experience in inventory control, cycle counting, and order picking.
- Experience in packing, packaging, production support, loading, unloading, and general warehouse tasks.
- Comfort working in a busy distribution environment with frequent forklift usage.
- Flexibility to assist across multiple functional areas within the warehouse.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Garner, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
