About the Position
The Benefits Assistant supports an assigned client to provide administrative support to the client’s Human Resources department and employees. Responsibilities include operating between two office locations to support employee communication and a range of client‑specified receptionist and general clerical services.
LocationLocation: This position is fully onsite at Methodist Hospital. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday:
Northlake Campus – Gary, IN;
Thursday:
Southlake Campus – Merrillville, IN.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Essential Functions- As a support member of the Benefits Team, develops a comprehensive understanding of the client’s benefit programs and serves as one of the primary points of contact for benefit‑related questions and support.
- Greets and supports walk‑in employees and visitors to the HR department. Serves as a liaison between the client’s Human Resources department and employees to route individuals to the correct resource.
- Provides a variety of support services; based on client needs, duties may include (but are not limited to) the administration of responding to basic benefit‑related questions; processing incoming mail or email requests; filing documents and similar clerical duties.
- When applicable, supports and responds to benefits communication inbox and/or contact center while meeting quality assurance standards set by the client.
- Accurately tracks employee services and client support in appropriate systems.
- Creates and maintains a proactive environment by promptly coordinating with supervisors and other appropriate parties when recognizing an accelerated issue or unusual matter to collectively provide solutions and ensure it is resolved thoroughly and accurately.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent and/or related work experience equivalency.
- Professional experience demonstrating client‑oriented service skills.
- Professional experience demonstrating self‑driven solutions with little supervision.
Proven professional experience following a step‑by‑step process while using deductive reasoning to produce positive outcomes.
PreferredEducation and Experience
- Higher education or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a related field.
- Working knowledge of benefit insurance products including core and/or voluntary benefit insurance.

The starting hourly pay range for this position is $20‑23 per hour.
The listed hourly range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum compensation for this position. Actual pay will be determined based on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, licensure, and internal equity. In most cases, new hires are not brought in at the top of the range, as compensation decisions are evaluated based on the specific circumstances of each hire.
