Purpose Statement

To achieve and maintain standards of teaching in Career and Technical Education.

Essential Functions

The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by this position.

  • Provides direct instruction in the areas of building construction, work-place safety, the operation of small and large hand and power tools, building plans, specification and codes, framing roofing, siding, walls, windows/doors/floors, and basic cleaning of resilient/hardwood floors, and carpets.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of the Construction Trades career and college readiness plan.
  • Organizes and conducts assigned Construction Trades Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Organizes and implements a comprehensive acquisition plan for construction trades equipment, material, and supplies.
  • Assures students are provided the maximum educational services obtainable.
  • Monitors learning environment classroom/building trades lab on a daily basis.
  • Monitors student progress on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Reviews and produces regular reports on students' progress/achievement.
  • Communicates student discipline and/or attendance issues to School Administrator and/or School Counselor as required.
  • Organizes Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) for the building trades program under Skills USA.
  • Develops recruitment programs that eliminate bias and stereotyping of students enrolled in the Construction Trades program.
  • Regularly attends professional development activities centered on construction trades, teaching methods and curriculum development and design.
  • Works with parents, students, administrators, and outside district groups and organizations to enable the mission of the school to be articulated.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient/effective working environment.

Knowledge of
  • Career and technical educational instructional delivery methods.
Skill in
  • Using personal computers and related software applications.
  • All building trades; e.g. framing, plumbing, electrical, finish carpentry, and concrete.
Ability to
  • Ensure a positive learning environment through classroom management.
  • Ensure the success of ALL students.
Education and Experience

Must be eligible for Workplace Specialist license based upon 3-5 years of verifiable work experience in the construction industry.

Certification

Must hold a valid Workplace Specialist license.
