Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8:30 AM – 1:15 PM
Compensation: $37.50 per hour

Gary Community School Corporation is seeking highly qualified, student-centered educators to serve in Summer School Teaching Positions for both Elementary and High School programs. Summer school staff will provide standards-based instruction designed to strengthen academic achievement, support learning recovery, and promote student growth in alignment with Indiana Department of Education standards and district curriculum goals.
Selected candidates will deliver engaging instruction, assess student progress, and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment while supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide effective instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and district-approved curriculum.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that address student learning needs and summer program objectives.
- Monitor, assess, and document student progress throughout the summer session.
- Maintain accurate attendance, academic records, and required reports.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
- Collaborate with administrators, instructional staff, and support personnel to ensure program success.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student performance and attendance as required.
- Implement accommodations and modifications for diverse learners in accordance with IEPs, 504 Plans, and district guidelines.
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and Indiana Department of Education regulations.
- Participate in required professional development, orientation, and staff meetings.
High School Summer School Teachers:
- Valid Indiana teaching license in appropriate secondary content area.
- Demonstrated expertise in subject‑specific instruction.
- Ability to support credit recovery, academic intervention, and standards mastery.
- Previous summer school or intervention experience.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Strong classroom management and instructional technology skills.
- Ability to perform essential teaching functions in a classroom environment.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Ability to supervise students in instructional and non‑instructional settings.
- Employment is contingent upon student enrollment, program funding, and administrative approval.
- Positions are temporary and limited to the designated summer session.
- Compensation is paid at $37.50 per hour for approved hours worked.
- Staff must comply with all district expectations, policies, drug screening and background clearance requirements.
