Job Summary

The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in both general education and special education settings. This role involves assisting teachers in implementing instructional plans, providing behavioral and academic support to students, and helping create a safe, supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.

Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during classroom activities.

Help modify instructional materials and classroom activities to accommodate various learning styles.

Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding student performance.

Support students in developing social skills and promoting positive interactions with peers.

Assist with personal care tasks as needed, including mobility, feeding, and hygiene.

Share responsibility of diapering and feeding assigned to students.

Assist students with physical transfer, including weight lifting and positioning.

Ensure safety protocols are followed during lifting and transferring activities.

Receiving students from and escorting them to the bus during both morning and afternoon sessions, as necessary.

Assisting with the breakfast program to facilitate a smooth start to the day for our students.

Complete required daily documentation for assigned students, including behavior, academic progress, and any relevant observations.

Supporting lunch and recreational activities following lunch, promoting engagement and interaction among students.

Accompanying students during class changes to ensure their safety and timely arrival at their next classes.

Assisting with receiving and dismissing students at designated times throughout the day.

Providing any additional support as assigned by the teacher, contributing to a collaborative educational environment.

Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with school policies.

Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.

Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.

Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to ensure comprehensive support for students.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or higher is preferred.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

The ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

A patient, compassionate demeanor with a genuine interest in supporting students' growth and development.
