Purpose Statement

To help students learn subject matter and skills related to Pre‑School that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women, and cause them to perform satisfactorily on educational measurement instruments adopted by the corporation.

Essential Functions
  • Enforces all district and school policies governing students.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order.
  • Monitors students in the educational environment (e.g. classroom, playground, gym, computer lab, multi‑purpose room, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Administers tests and monitors students quarterly for the purpose of assessing the level of students’ competencies.
  • Uses various assessment tools such as monitoring sheets, observations, children’s work samples, and etc., to help make instructional decisions for individual students.
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying interests and needs.
  • Follows the pre‑k pacing guides and/or curriculum maps.
  • Prepares daily lesson plans that reflect the objectives and goals of the approved pre‑k curriculum.
  • Instructs children in pre‑k activities designed to promote intellectual, social and physical growth and development.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all units and lessons.
  • Maintains accurate student records as required by district policies, state and federal laws.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records.
  • Reports excessive student absences and tardiness to the proper school personnel.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials such as grades, attendance, student records for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students and to communicate with and advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress.
  • Establishes a positive relationship with parents and maintains communication through parent letters, report cards and other reports of progress in accordance with district policy.
  • Attends professional meetings, staff meetings and workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Collaborates with teachers and administrators in the development, modification and evaluation of the pre‑school program/curriculum.
  • Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning following the approved pre‑k curriculum.
  • Maintains inventories of classroom materials and equipment.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.

Students and paraprofessionals.

Qualifications

  • Supervise, plan and direct instructional assistants and volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Education and Experience

Early Childhood Development Certificate or Associate Degree Required or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education preferred.

Certification

Valid Indiana teaching license with Early Childhood or Pre‑School endorsement a plus.
