Role Description

The Lighting Director is a on call, , on-site role based at Hard Rock Live Northern Indiana in Gary, IN. This role is responsible for planning, programming, and executing lighting designs for live performances, special events, and venue experiences throughout the property. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing stage and architectural lighting setups, operating lighting control systems during shows, and coordinating with production, audio, and entertainment teams to deliver cohesive visual experiences.

The Lighting Director ensures all lighting equipment is properly maintained, troubleshoots technical issues, and upholds safety standards for rigging and electrical usage. This role also contributes to creative concepts for new events, manages lighting cues and timelines, and may supervise lighting technicians or contractors as needed.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in GRANDMA control systems and consoles, with the ability to program cues and operate lighting during live events.
  • Strong skills in lighting design and overall lighting concepts to enhance performances, stages, and venue ambience.
  • Hands‑on experience with general lighting and stage lighting, including fixture placement, focusing, and color mixing.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices and safety standards for hanging and securing lighting equipment.
  • Experience in live entertainment, theater, concerts, or casino environments is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, lighting plots, and venue specifications.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional production and entertainment teams.
  • Relevant technical training, certification, or coursework in lighting, stage production, or a related field preferred.
