Summary
Inspects in-process work, and finished products for conformance to shop drawings, specifications, and codes by performing the duties below. Must have “people skills” as this position will be dealing with our customer's representatives as well as employees. Organizational skills are a must along with record keeping and computer use and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Read and understand shop fabrication drawings for steel bridge fabrication.
- Read and understand specifications.
- Read and understand codes and code requirements for:
- Highway bridges
- Railroad bridges
- State DOTs
- Measure dimensions of product or material to match shop drawings.
- Use Total Station to measure full and partial assembly of bridge structures.
- Enforce non-conformance procedure as required.
- Understand and use optical measuring equipment to measure individual members and assembled sections.
- Operate diagnostic equipment required to perform the job.
- Control calibration of equipment.
- Complete all required quality control inspection reports and distribute them to appropriate personnel.
- Perform related duties as needed by supervision.
- Additional duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three years related experience and/or training in use of survey equipment, tape measure, and drawing interpretation.
- Ability to learn total station and complete dimensional inspection reports within 3 to 6 months.
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to understand geometry.
- Ability to read and interpret measuring devices for both English units and metric units.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to read and understand shop fabrication drawings.
