Position: Fleet Bus Diesel Mechanic (Powertrain & HVAC)
Make a direct impact keeping school buses safe and reliable

Based in Gary, IN, you’ll be the go-to technician handling everything from routine service to full powertrain overhauls on gasoline and diesel buses. Your day could start with preventive maintenance, move into diagnosing a tricky drivability issue, and wrap up with an HVAC repair or DOT inspection—while keeping meticulous records of time and materials.

Schedule & Pay Mon–Friday, 1st or 2nd shift $28–$38 per hour

What you’ll work on Perform routine and advanced service on diesel- and gasoline-powered buses—from basic maintenance and minor fixes to full vehicle service.

Diagnose mechanical concerns and execute a preventive maintenance program.

Complete major and minor engine and transmission overhauls.

Repair and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel and ignition systems, HVAC units, and wheelchair lift mechanisms.

Service and support vehicle air-conditioning systems.

Inspect and repair school buses to meet DOT standards.

Document all work, tracking hours and materials used.

What you bring

Hands-on experience with medium-duty buses;
International-brand truck/bus experience preferred.

Your own professional tool set.

Working knowledge of pupil transportation codes and laws, including IDOT inspections.

CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.

A/C certification preferred.

Clear, professional communication skills with customers and teammates.

Calm under pressure with a focus on deadlines and outstanding service.

Self-starter who sees assignments through to completion.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Consistent, on-time attendance.

Ability to speak and listen clearly on the telephone.

Capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
