We are looking for an energetic and reliable Transportation Customer Service Representative to join our team in Gary, IN. We are a dynamic, stable and growing company with great long‑term career opportunities across our headquarters, trucking terminals, mechanic shops, depots, tank washes and other locations.
Compensation and Incentives$25–28 per hour
Job SummaryThis position is the primary day‑to‑day contact for an assigned group of drivers (generally up to 30 drivers), consisting of company employee drivers and/or independent contractors. Drivers operate on a 24/7 basis; accordingly, an SDO is expected to participate in an on‑call schedule. This schedule will vary based on location and business needs. The position handles a range of driver operation responsibilities, including but not limited to dispatching, load planning and customer service.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
Receive orders from customers to provide orders for all drivers available for a work assignment via Phone, Email, Fax or EDI and accurately enter them into the TMW Order Management System.
- Solicit freight from customers as directed by TM and/or terminal planner and/or for all available capacity both domiciled and foreign, in the area of responsibility.
- Work with customers on changes to scheduled loading and delivery times, to ensure coverage, update TMW and notify terminal personnel as needed of all changes.
- Work with planners, drivers and other terminal personnel to ensure all customer requirements are met.
- Track all loads in TMW/Trip alert to proactively identify service concerns.
- Work with other departments as necessary to secure proper locations, correct commodity codes and proper credit approvals for all customers, ship locations and consignee locations.
Ensure all data entry is accurate and that orders are updated properly to hand off to the terminal billers.
Ensure all service issues are properly documented in the NCR system.

Skills and Abilities
- Strong skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Experience with Google Apps preferred.
- Must have experience with transportation software including EDI and TMW.
- Must have experience in the transportation industry (bulk chemical preferred but not necessary).
- Ability to function as part of a team at a high level.
- Critical thinker.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Full‑time, in office, 5 days a week.
- This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office and computer equipment. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
