The Town of La Grange is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented professional to join its Finance Department as an Accounts Payable Clerk / Finance Specialist II. This is a central support role in the Town’s day-to-day financial operations. The person in this position keeps money moving accurately and on time - reviewing invoices, processing payments to the vendors and suppliers who keep Town services running, reconciling accounts, and maintaining the clean, well-documented financial records that responsible municipal government depends on.
Because La Grange is a small, close-knit organization, this role also works directly with residents at the counter and over the phone, which makes courteous, accurate customer service part of the everyday work. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Review invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment.
- Process, track, and record vendor and supplier payments accurately, efficiently, and on time.
- Reconcile credit card and gas card accounts.
- Generate purchase orders as needed.
- Obtain required signatures on all checks.
- Prepare and submit annual 1099 forms.
- Perform cash collections and ensure the accurate processing and balancing of transactions.
- Scan, file, and maintain vendor invoices and check records in a timely, organized manner.
- Provide exceptional customer service to residents, both in person and over the phone.
- Assist senior financial staff and perform general administrative tasks that support office operations.
- Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in municipal finance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working understanding of the basic principles of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping.
- Strong time-management skills and close attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Prior experience in accounts payable (or accounts receivable).
- Experience with accounting software and online financial platforms.
This is a full-time position on a four-day work week:
Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The starting salary for this position is $50,521 per year ($24.29 per hour), the entry rate of Salary Grade 10 under the Town's adopted FY pay schedule. Grade 10 carries a full range of $50,521 to $69,396, with advancement through the range over time.
