JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Office of Governor Josh Stein is seeking a Press Secretary to help communicate the Governor’s priorities of building a safer, stronger North Carolina. The ideal candidate is a self‑motivated team player who is passionate about strategic communication in markets across the state. The position is located in Raleigh and will require travel across the state.
Press Secretary duties include:
- Acting as the main point of contact for media inquiries, fostering relationships with journalists and media outlets
- Organizing and coordinating press conferences and other public‑facing events, including preparing materials, coordinating with speakers, and staffing the Governor at events
- Supporting the communications department of various North Carolina cabinet agencies
- Managing the deputy press secretary
- Other administrative responsibilities to support the communications team
We are seeking someone with:
- 3-4 years experience in government, campaigns, or issue‑based advocacy
- A car and a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work irregular hours as needed
- A positive, collaborative, and proactive attitude
- Experience working with reporters, preferably in North Carolina
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organization
