Definition
The employee performs a variety of tasks for the professional staff in the schools, which supports the educational environment in the classroom. Among the specialty areas are instruction, clerical, behavior, bus driving, computer, and/or control room. Work requires the performance and demonstration of a variety of competencies.

Depending on how the Principal advertises the vacancy, the Teacher Assistant position may require duties in more than one area. Each area is an essential function.
InstructionalIn addition to the Common Competencies and Physical Requirements, the employee in this role:
- Assists in the preparation of materials
- Takes initiative with instructional duties
- Assists the teacher with instruction, whether whole class, small group, and/or individual
- Checks students’ work accurately
- Keeps students on task
- May fill in for the teacher, as needed
In addition to the Common Competencies and Physical Requirements, the employee in this role:
- Uses appropriate behavioral interventions
- Participates in professional learning related to these duties
- Treats students with respect
- Successfully assists students with assignments
In addition to the Common Competencies and Physical Requirements, the employee in this role:
- Compile and analyze data on individual and county-wide school discipline issues.
- Maintain files and provide reports to local administrators related to school discipline issues.
- Assist in the development of behavior plans.
- Work with teachers and school administrators to identify ‘at-risk’ students.
- Attends Crisis Intervention Monthly Care Meetings.
- Attends Child Family Treatment meetings.
- Attends weekly MTSS meetings.
- Assists Counselor with Section 504’s.
- Conducts small group/one-on-one therapeutic meetings.
- Conducts classroom observations for identified students.
- Assists in creating safety plans.
- Conducts therapeutic walks and talks with students as needed.
- Assists in communicating the mental health therapeutic treatment of students to parents.
- Assists students, parents, and schools with the transition-out process.
- Other duties as assigned.
