Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant
The employee provides support to students who have health, behavioral, or instructional needs to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and have success in the general curriculum. Common competencies include regular attendance, punctuality, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, adherence to school policies, positive rapport with students and employees, excellent computer skills, record-keeping abilities, strong communication skills, impeccable ethical behaviors, behavior management techniques, confidentiality, role modeling, support for school programs, time management, participation in professional learning, acceptance of diversity, understanding of role differences, knowledge of student development, creation of a positive atmosphere, operation of office equipment, timely task completion, and acceptance of other duties as assigned.
Job specific duties may include behavior support, client care, pre-kindergarten classes, visually impaired classes, job coaching, and bus driving. The employee will participate in staff development and training, prepare materials, operate office equipment, communicate effectively, develop positive relationships, assist teachers, perform student behavior-related duties, work individually, model teaching strategies, collect and report data, and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding child development, organizing assignments, sound judgment, confidentiality, knowledge of classroom activities, daily routines, student handbook rules, emergency procedures, adapting instruction, organization and administration principles, curriculum knowledge, student safety monitoring, motivation, maintaining a clean environment, general clerical duties, order and discipline, office machine operation, file maintenance, following instructions, and establishing effective working relationships.
Physical requirements include using equipment and tools, exerting force to move objects, and having auditory, visual, and physical skills necessary for student and classroom management.
Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma, minimum of 48 semester hours or an associate's degree, and willingness to obtain a CDL if required.
