Position: Solar Technician I

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs/assists with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment including, but not limited to, installed Inverters (Sungrow), Trackers (ATI), Combiner Boxes, PV Modules, DC/AC Collection and Distribution equipment, and Substation equipment.
  • Performs/assists with routine electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration, and other tasks as assigned by supervisor and work orders.
  • Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
  • Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
  • Participates in training as required.
  • Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties related to operating and maintaining a power plant.
  • May assist with site vegetation management, including operating tractors and mowers.
  • Writes/assists with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other documents as assigned.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
  • May work independently or in crews, depending on skills and experience.
Desired Skills, Expertise and Competencies
  • Understand and promote general workplace safety and contribute to improving safety standards.
  • Experience with electrical systems and safety principles, including LOTO and Electrical Safety.
  • Proficient with personal computers; familiarity with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional, geographically diverse organization.
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic and willingness to assist others.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to synthesize complex information and support decision makers.
  • Strong hands-on technical abilities; ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

  • Honest, open communication and professional conduct.
  • Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at a solar facility and substation; experience with various electrical/construction projects and basic IT equipment; knowledge of substation equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in research and handling highly technical equipment and engineering tasks.
  • Has a valid TWIC certification or ability to obtain TWIC within 90 days of employment.
Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in solar system installation or operation is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals and equipment control devices used in power facilities is a plus.
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor work at solar power plants and/or office environments with variable temperatures and humidity; may involve work at heights.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs/ladders, and entering equipment enclosures to inspect or collect data.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, and ear protection.
  • Possible work around rotating equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasional lifting and travel to sites outside the typical area; overtime and non-standard hours as required.
