Overview
The person in this position will perform tasks to determine initial and on‑going eligibility for individuals applying for medical assistance through the Family and Children’s Medicaid Program and occasionally the agency’s Energy Programs. The person will ensure that client applications are accepted and processed; case recertifications and changes are processed; interviews with clients are conducted; eligibility requirements explained; and required letters, monthly reports, and forms are processed timely and according to policy.
Additional responsibilities may arise, and the person will perform related duties in accordance with policy, agency guidance and procedures.
- Any combination of education and experience equal to graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum;
- Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience that included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks, with at least one year of this experience in an income maintenance program;
- Graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience that included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analyzing data and/or performing mathematical or legal tasks.
In accordance with State mandates and the Halifax County Emergency Operations Plan, Halifax County Social Services staff are required to staff emergency shelters during times of disaster. Every staff person is eligible to be assigned to an emergency shelter or Emergency Operations Center.
