Description Of Work

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team of qualified professionals providing early childhood intervention and family support resources to children birth through five years of age with or at risk for disabilities and their families. The SLP provides speech and language assessments and evaluations for children who have more complex diagnoses, delivers speech-language intervention to enrolled children, instructs parents and other caregivers in communication-related activities, and provides consultation and technical assistance to other staff and community paraprofessionals, professionals and agencies.

The SLP also participates in activities to support FIPP’s mission of providing a broad range of family-centered resources, engaging in research studies, and providing professional development and resources to the early intervention community at large.

Salary Range: $64,211.00 – $

Qualifications – Candidates meet minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. KSAs/Management Preferences are not required; the following skills are preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of professional speech and language pathology theory, techniques, principles, and/or procedures.
  • Prior experience with pediatric speech-language pathology.
  • Knowledge of speech-language assessment and intervention, typical/atypical development of children birth through five years, specialized equipment for this age group, family systems theories, and family-centered practice.
  • Ability to communicate with families, assist families in identifying strengths, goals, resources and action plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with numerous FIPP staff and diverse community and professional contacts.
Trainees / Licensure

Trainees will be considered if there are no fully qualified applicants. Trainee Appointment requires a Master’s degree in speech and language pathology from an appropriately accredited institution as required by North Carolina licensing statute (G.S.90-292) to be eligible for a temporary license issued by the NC Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists. The temporary license must be obtained before the first day of employment.

Upon receipt of permanent license (9–12 months), employee may move into full class.

Exempt Status

This Position Is Exempt and is exempt from certain provisions of the State Human Resources Act (GS 126).

Hours:

1st shift (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), Monday – Friday with variation as needed.

The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) is a community-based component of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. FIPP is an early childhood intervention and family support program that has been providing supports and services in western North Carolina since 1972. Its mission is to promote optimal health and development of young children, especially those with or at risk for disabilities, through supporting and strengthening families, and to promote the dissemination of research, resources and professional development opportunities to improve service delivery to families and children.
