Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a Safety and Compliance Coordinator to join our Risk Management Team. Working under limited supervision, the Safety and Compliance Coordinator performs professional and technical work in the coordination, administration, and continuous improvement of the County’s Risk Management, Safety, Workers’ Compensation, and Training programs.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include safety program leadership, employee training development, regulatory compliance oversight, workers’ compensation claims administration, drug testing program management, and injury prevention initiatives. The role works collaboratively with County departments to reduce risk exposure, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety, health, and wellness across the organization. The Safety and Compliance Coordinator reports directly to the Risk Manager.
QualificationsThis position is considered an ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE POSITION under County policy and may be required to work to support essential operations during inclement weather, non-emergency closure, and/or closure due to a state of emergency/county disaster. Bachelor’s degree in safety management, public administration, business administration, occupational health, or related field, AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, safety administration, workers’ compensation, or occupational training;
OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Working knowledge of:
North Carolina workers’ compensation administration, claims management, and return-to-work programs; OSHA standards and regulatory reporting requirements; and insurance principles and public-sector risk management practices are required.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification and successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Training, or the ability to obtain within the probationary period.
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and/or similar credential preferred.
- Ability to conduct accident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Strong instructional design and training facilitation skills.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare technical reports.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making.
Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. Requires standing, walking, stooping, and the use of office equipment. Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, potential contact with blood borne pathogens, and use of personal protective equipment may be required.
