We are currently seeking a skilled Feather Process Operator to join our team at the rendering plant.
Job Description:
The Feather Process Operator at Tyson RVI-Harmony rendering plant is responsible for overseeing the processing of feathers to produce feather meal, a valuable protein source used in animal feed. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Feather Process Operator will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality feather meal while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
Operate feather processing equipment, including feather cookers, dryers, and mills, to process feathers into feather meal according to production schedules and specifications. Monitor process parameters, equipment operation, and product quality to ensure compliance with standards and requirements. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on processing equipment to ensure reliability, efficiency, and safety. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and mechanical issues, performing repairs or adjustments as needed to minimize downtime.
Coordinate with production and logistics teams to schedule feather processing operations and prioritize production needs based on inventory levels and customer requirements. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. Conduct quality checks on feather meal, including visual inspections, moisture content analysis, and odor assessments, to ensure compliance with specifications.
Record production data, equipment readings, and process parameters accurately and comprehensively in logbooks and computerized systems. Clean and sanitize processing equipment, work areas, and tools regularly to prevent contamination and ensure product quality and safety. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements.
** The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

* Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in food science, industrial technology, or a related field preferred. Strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand and operate complex machinery and equipment. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety protocols accurately. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and supervisors. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production schedules and operational needs. Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures applicable to feather processing operations and industrial manufacturing environments. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks as required.
