Job Summary:
The Service Technician provides forklift, material handling, and hands-on construction support for the branch. Operating a forklift and often working independently, this role ensures materials are properly received, stored, organized, and safely transported, and performs repairs and maintenance on branch assets so that projects are completed on time, in spec, on budget, and in top condition to exceed customer expectations. The Service Technician reports to the Branch Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
Material Handling & Storage Receive, inspect, and store incoming materials, ensuring accurate documentation and proper storage.
Unload all incoming material trucks and unbundle product upon delivery.
Safely operate forklift to move, load, and unload materials and containers, ensuring minimal damage and timely distribution.
Maneuver large loads around the yard and load Knockdown materials, as needed.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance on forklift equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
Report on inventory levels of all equipment/tools/parts/VAPS needed for service tasks and for reorder purposes, working with the Production Manager.
Handle and dispose of waste materials according to company guidelines and environmental regulations; monitor dumpster levels and call for pick-ups when needed.
Clean out all debris from Material Storage Area(s).Workspace Organization (5S)
Maintain the 5S methodology (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the workspace and yard to enhance efficiency and safety.
Organize tools, equipment, and materials to optimize access and reduce movement and handling time.
Report on any deficiencies of workspace 5S principles and work with Production Manager to make necessary adjustments.
Service & Repair of Branch Assets Perform repairs to mobile trailers and storage containers including framing and basic carpentry, electrical, painting, flooring, plumbing, and all other facets of modular building repair.
Clean, repair, and ensure all modular units are in excellent condition and ready for scheduled delivery dates, adhering to Wilmot’s high quality standards.
Perform HVAC system checks and maintenance per company guidelines, as qualified.
Provide backup for Quality Technician to perform inspections of returned leased buildings to determine repair scope of work.
Back up other Forklift Drivers and Service Technicians as needed, to include loading/unloading containers.
Safety & Communication Adhere to all Wilmot safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of protective gear, and report malfunctions of equipment and/or safety concerns within the Wilmot yard.
Attend and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Communicate effectively and provide courteous customer service to coworkers, supervisors, and other internal departments to ensure smooth operations.
Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements to optimize efficiency and safety.
Other duties as assigned, being that this position description is intended to be a general overview of the role’s responsibilities and the work performed.
Service Technician Tiers:
Tech I – 1+ specialty skill demonstrated
Tech II – 2+ specialty skills demonstrated
Tech III – 3+ specialty skills demonstrated, with ability to train other Techs Tech IV – Certified specialty skill, with ability to train other Techs High School diploma or GED required
Minimum 1-2 years’ experience with hand tools; general carpentry knowledge required, modular construction experience preferred
Previous experience operating forklifts; certification is a plus Knowledge of 5S or other organizational methodologiesA current valid license and good driving record required
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, keeping on-task
Have willingness & ability to learn new construction methods and trades
Ability to lift/move 50 lbs and work in various outdoor weather conditions
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Be a true team player with a “can-do” positive attitude
Good communications skills to interact with internal team Ability to take direction, manage timelines & deadlines, and offer trouble shooting solutions as needed
Commitment to adhering to safety guidelines and procedures
Have a solid work ethic that includes doing the right thing, being reliable, trustworthy, honest, and accountable
