Highways Operative

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Highways Operative to join our team based in Gateshead. You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving the local highway network, ensuring roads, footpaths, and public spaces remain safe and accessible.

This is a physically demanding role working outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Carry out highway maintenance and repair works.
• Install, repair, and maintain road signs, barriers, kerbs, and street furniture.
• Undertake pothole repairs, patching, drainage, and footway maintenance.
• Set up and remove traffic management in line with safety procedures.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and plant equipment where authorised.
• Complete daily safety checks and maintain accurate work records.
• Follow health and safety procedures and wear the required PPE at all times.
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver projects on time and to a high standard.
