At Sodexo, we believe that the environments we create have a direct impact on people's experiences. We're looking for a skilled and passionate Painter to join our Hard FM team supporting Northumbria University
, helping to maintain and transform student accommodation, academic buildings, offices and communal spaces across Newcastle and Gateshead.

This is more than a painting and decorating role. It's an opportunity to play a key part in enhancing one of the UK's leading university estates, ensuring thousands of students, staff and visitors enjoy safe, welcoming and professionally maintained environments every day.

As a Painter, you'll deliver a high-quality painting and decorating service across a diverse portfolio of university buildings and student residences. We're looking for someone who combines excellent trade skills with a positive, customer-focused attitude.

If you take pride in delivering exceptional finishes, enjoy working in varied locations, and want to be part of a supportive team where quality craftsmanship is valued, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Carrying out planned, reactive and refurbishment painting and decorating works
  • Preparing surfaces to the highest standards including filling, sanding, sealing and priming
  • Applying paints, varnishes, stains and specialist coatings to internal and external surfaces
  • Completing room refresh programmes and supporting major student accommodation turnaround projects
  • Undertaking minor repairs and making-good works associated with decorating activities

Protecting furniture, fixtures and occupied areas while maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
  • Using CAFM systems to update work records and maintenance activity
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and university stakeholders
  • Delivering a customer-focused service with minimal disruption to students and staff
  • Supporting the wider maintenance team and participating in the call-out rota when required

What You Bring:

Essential
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting & Decorating, City & Guilds qualification, recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • Significant practical painting and decorating experience within commercial, facilities management, hospitality, education, healthcare or residential environments
  • Experience delivering both planned and reactive maintenance works
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation, paint systems and coating applications
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality finishes
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills and confidence using electronic work management systems
Desirable
  • IPAF, PASMA or CSCS certification
  • Experience working in universities, student accommodation or large occupied estates
  • Knowledge of wall coverings and specialist coatings
  • Asbestos Awareness, COSHH Awareness or First Aid qualifications
  • Experience supporting refurbishment and room turnaround programmes
