BC Ferries is seeking a proactive Engine Room Assistant for casual work on Salt Spring Island. You will monitor critical machinery, assist with maintenance tasks, and uphold high safety standards. A background in marine operations, including emergency training, is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor machinery levels, temperatures, and pressures
• Clean shipboard machinery and environment regularly
• Assist engineers with engine and maintenance tasks
• Conduct daily tasks like fuel soundings and checks
• Perform safety checks and participate in drills
Requirements:
• Marine Emergency duties training (STCW compliant)
• Mechanical background desirable, with training or certification
• Preferred 4th Class Motor Certificate
• Strong ability to prioritize and complete tasks safely
• Experience with maintenance of mechanical systems
