Description
Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and Parks and Recreation Coordinator, performs maintenance, landscaping and general upkeep activities at Otsego County parks and facilities. Provides excellent customer service when interacting with park patrons.

Examples of Duties
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties, which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Performs parks and facility maintenance duties at all Otsego County Parks and Recreation facilities including refuse removal, mowing, weed whipping, upkeep, and painting as needed.
  • Travels throughout the County to all the County parks on daily basis.
  • Operates motorized equipment such as riding lawn mowers, attaches and transports trailers and loads and unloads materials, supplies, debris and equipment.
  • Performs minor equipment and building repairs.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance work.
  • Customer service responsibilities include interacting with county park patrons at various County parks.
  • Special event set up, tear down and general maintenance.
  • Inspect park grounds and facilities structures for safety and appearance; reports any dangerous conditions to designated supervisor.
  • Works on special maintenance and improvement projects as assigned.
  • May fill in as a County Park Ranger when needed for staff coverage or special events.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Typical Qualifications

    Requirements include the following:
    • High School Diploma or equivalency and 1+ year of maintenance experience working in building. custodial, lawn care and equipment maintenance. Related college coursework towards a degree in Recreation Management may be substituted for work experience requirement.
    • Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License.
    • Ability to operate motorized equipment and the ability to safely drive a County vehicle with a trailer attached to all County parks.
    • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform minor repairs.
    • Basic computer skills for email, online training and operation of computerized park reservations system.
    • Ability to work with a wide variety of people.
    • Able to read and follow instructions and equipment manufacturer's manuals.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and view and create written documents. The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and may climb ladders or uneven terrain. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, such as to operate and repair vibrating machinery, use wrenches, hand tools, etc.,

    and operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Accommodation will be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. The employee may work near moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can frequently be loud.
    * Steel toed boots required.
    Irregular Part-Time Otsego County employees will accrue at least one (1) hour of earned sick time for every thirty (30) hours worked and must work at least 60 days to be eligible for usage. Upon separation, Otsego County will not pay out accrued, unused "Personal/ESTA" time. There is no accumulation, carry over, or payout of personal/earned sick time leave hours. Otsego County does not offer any other fringe benefits for Irregular Part Time Employees.
