SHE Manager

McCormick is always looking for new people to bring their unique flavor to our team. We are looking to hire an SHE Manager for our Geneva, IL location. The Site SHE Manager will lead activities at the campus for the implementation, training, periodic updating and auditing of a comprehensive Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) and Sustainability (PLP) program to ensure regulatory compliance and conformance with company standards.

This role is responsible for providing aligned direction for the successful execution of these programs across a multi-function site that handles and manages a wide variety of hazardous materials. This position requires less than 10% travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforcement of McCormick Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures
  • Facilitation and maintenance of behavior-based safety systems
  • Case management, analysis of safety incidents and behaviors
  • Ensure safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes, regulatory compliance, along with risk management for liability, Workers' Compensation, and property claims at the manufacturing site are being adhered
  • Provides direction at the site level to operating unit and plant personnel to ensure SHE/PLP activities and programs are uniform, coordinating compliance and risk
  • Communicate and translate organizational Safety, Health and Environment objectives, goals, strategies and measures
  • Performs self-audits of processes and programs for conformance to national, regional, and local SHE/PLP regulations
  • Develop and facilitate Safety Functional Leaders in a manner which ensures Injury/Incident review boards, leading action plans and root cause analysis are conducted
  • Develops and implements policies, programs, and practices to promote continuous improvement within the site and to ensure, at a minimum, that the organization complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards concerning Safety, Health and Environment
  • Implementation, development and maintenance of SHE Management System to ensure regulatory compliance related to waste management, wastewater management, emission control, soil protection and remediation, management of hazardous material, emergency response and obtaining and operating within permissible limits
  • Manages the development of comprehensive exposure assessments and industrial hygiene surveys/analyses and determines the appropriate level of engineering or administrative (PPE) control for chemical handling
  • Assists in the facilitation of site annual Safety, Health and Environment action plan

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific or engineering field such as Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience working in developing and managing SHE/PLP programs with relevant operating facility-based experience
  • CSP, ASP, and/or CIH required
  • Knowledge of best practices in the handling of hazardous materials, specifically combustible liquids
  • Technical competency in developing SHE/PLP programs, performing JHA/JSA's
  • Experience interacting with federal, state, and local governmental organizations and business associations
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing facilities and associated SHE/PLP management systems
  • Demonstrated history of effectively coordinating conflicting priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and leadership skills
  • Presentation ability and motivational speaking
  • Leading and influencing site personnel via safety audits, training, team building through Functional Leader development
  • Strategize, coach and mentor
  • Timely, measurable, and accountable action planning
  • Develop and communicate Safety, Health and Environmental plans
  • Project Management;
    Business improvement planning, leadership, and problem solving

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in relevant field preferred (e.g. environmental, health, safety, industrial hygiene or relevant scientific or engineering field)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH), Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), Certified OHS Professional (COHSProf), Certified Safety Engineer (CSE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or equivalent certification
  • Or the ability to obtain certification
  • ISO 45001, Flavor or Food Industry manufacturing experience, experience with high levels of combustible liquids
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish), or demonstrated effectiveness in leading bi-lingual teams and individuals
