McCormick & Company, Inc. is seeking a full‑time Flavor Lab Technician III (Beverage). This new hire will work in McCormick Flavor Solutions at the Geneva Plant (1900 Averill Road, Geneva, IL) and will report to a Principal Scientist, Health & Nutrition
.
The Health & Nutrition Lab Technician will support the Health & Nutrition Applications Team by operating and servicing beverage processing equipment, preparing beverage formulations, and screening flavors in tasting bases that represent finished products in the beverage industry. Responsibilities include organizing tastings, recording data, and shipping out flavors or prototypes to customers.
BKey Responsibilities
- Operating advanced beverage processing equipment
- Preparing beverage formulations
- Setting up flavors and raw materials for screening and evaluation
- Actively participating on sensory and lab panels
- Preparing and sending out shipments
- Stocking, ordering, and maintaining lab supplies; managing raw materials from plant or suppliers
- Creating simple beverage formulations with support from the team
- Investigating problems, identifying potential solutions, and making recommendations to supervisors
- Minimum of 24 college credits in math/science/culinary or up to 4 years of experience in the food industry
- Up to 4 years of food industry, food service, or lab experience
- Previous compounding and weighing experience with proven accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Experience in a food manufacturing environment or lab and knowledge of food safety
- Experience with beverage processing equipment or a strong desire to develop operational knowledge of industrial machinery
- Curiosity and innovative thinking
- Independent work with initiative
- Proven success multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Demonstrated problem‑solving skills
- Adaptability to rapidly changing priorities and multiple tasks; ability to take direction from product developers, scientists, and supervisors
- Ability to present information logically to peers
- Taste diverse foods and beverages, including alcoholic and caffeinated drinks
- Knowledge of GMP practices
- Accurate work with calculations (ratios, decimals, algebra, percentages) related to flavor formulas in a high‑volume environment
- Ability to work overtime or on short notice in the evenings
- Working knowledge of technical software or willingness to learn and adapt
- Data entry and basic PC skills, including Excel and Word
- Experience with product formulary and retrieval systems
- Knowledge of food chemistry
This position is critical to the growth of the health and nutrition beverage flavor business. It involves building relationships and partnerships with leading beverage companies and working closely with health & nutrition scientists to expand the business.
Physical RequirementsAbility to lift 10 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Grade Pay Range: $22.40 – $31.62/hour
