Description:
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families.
The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode.
The RN develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions.
He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions.
The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization.
This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing.
The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment.
The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
He/She assesses patient/family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through direct observation and assessment.
Creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address identified health problems.
In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors patient progress.
The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in condition or reprioritization of needs.
Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient.
Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcomes.
Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice.
Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
Motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home.
Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding.
Seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information.
Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process.
Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education.
Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery.
Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development.
Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills.
Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patients and families.
Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction.
Listens, communicates, engages, and anticipates patient and family needs.
