Description:
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode.
The RN provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions.
The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing.
The RN is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment.
The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
He/She assesses patient and family needs through active listening and analyzing data obtained through direct observation or health team communication.
The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the identified health problems.
In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors patient progress.
The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in condition.
The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient.
He/She encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcomes.
The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice.
The RN understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
The RN motivates patients and families by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home.
He/She assesses learning styles and structures teaching sessions to maximize understanding.
The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information.
He/She documents the education provided and the patient/family response to education.
The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice.
He/She engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development.
The RN takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills.
The RN uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient and family.
The RN seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship through active engagement and communication.
He/She strives to understand what is most important to the patient and family.
Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
