Description:
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode.
The Nurse provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions.
The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing.
The Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment.
The responsibilities include applying nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
Assessing patient and family needs through active listening, understanding reactions, and analyzing data obtained through observations, assessments, and communication.
Creating a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address identified health problems.
Collaborating with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members to set goals and monitor patient progress.
Adjusting the plan based on patient response or changes in condition or needs.
Promoting and protecting the health, safety, and rights of the patient.
Encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best patient outcomes.
Teaching others as appropriate and delegating tasks consistent with individual education and training.
Safeguarding public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
Motivating patients and families by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home.
Assessing learning styles and structuring education sessions for maximum understanding.
Providing tools and information to assist families after discharge.
Documenting education provided and patient/family responses.
Systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Engaging in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development.
Taking accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills.
Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
Nursing practice reflects the importance of making meaningful connections with patients and families.
Seeking to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship through active engagement and communication.
Acknowledging that patients and families are the central focus of care and services.
Embracing the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice.
Demonstrating skill in application of interventions including medication administration.
